Plan growth

When taking the next steps, and planning for future growth, it is advised that you only concentrate on a few areas at a time. You’ll be unlikely to succeed if your goal is to advance from level 4 to level 5 in all areas, and instead you should focus on a more manageable subset of tasks.

Plan, with your manager, where you wish to progress and try and identify tasks that could serve as evidence for progression. Make sure that what you do take on can be folded into your day-to-day role, and is not something that’ll be dumped as soon as you reach the next goal.

Plan to fail too. Progression shouldn’t be easy, and you’re unlikely to get there without conceding a few fouls on the way. Own your mistakes and use them to learn.
